SMC president Datuk Peter Hii Chang Lik said the facility would not only provide comfort and convenience to the locals, but more importantly for the safety of pedestrians in the area.

He said it was one of the government’s efforts in preparing for comfortable facilities for the people.

“I have personally gone to the site to inspect the construction of the pedestrian walkway to ensure that the project will be carried out in accordance with the standards set,” he said.

Peter also inspected the upgrading project of the drainage system at Bandar Sibuga that is still ongoing.

“The upgrading of the drainage system here is to widen the existing drains in order to ensure smooth flow and to avoid floods,” he said.

Peter urged the local residents and shop owners at the area not to throw rubbish into the drains but to dispose of them in garbage bins that are prepared.

“We ask for the cooperation of all parties, especially the locals, to keep this place clean, also as a way to avoid contagious diseases,” he added.

During his inspection here yesterday, Peter Hii also went to Sibuga Market to inspect the hawkers and listen to problems faced at the market.
