Young motorcycli­st killed by suspected drunk driver

KUANTAN: A youth died while two of his friends were injured when their motorcycle­s were mowed down by a suspected drunk car driver, early yesterday morning.

Temerloh police chief ACP Zundin Mahmood said the victim, Mohd Aiman Ngatimin, 17, was pronounced dead at the location at Kilometre 27 of Jalan TemerlohJe­rantut near Kampung Datuk Shariff Ahmad, Kuala Krau, near here.

The 2.50am incident also caused Muhammad Ridhuan Azmar, 17, to sustain light injury while Mohd Amsyar Nadzim Mohd Nasir, 14, broke his right leg.

"The accident involved three motorcycle­s and a Proton Persona driven by some military personnel who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol.

“The suspect is believed to be on his way from his brother-in-law's house in Kuala Krau to Mempaga, Bentong while the victim was in a convoy in front of the car,” he said when contacted here yesterday.

All the victims were believed to be on their way home in the village when the accident occurred.

Zundin said the body of Mohd Aiman had been brought to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh for post-mortem while Mohd Amsyar Nadzim was still being treated in the yellow zone of the hospital.

He said the 29-year-old suspect who was unhurt was being detained at the scene with blood and urine samples taken for further action.

Investigat­ion was conducted under Section 44 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - Bernama
