63,750 AWAS summonses issued by RTD from Sept 1 to Nov 7
MELAKA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 63,750 summonses via 45 cameras under the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) during the period Sept 1 until Wednesday (Nov 7).
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar said that of the total, 59,340 summonses involved offences for exceeding the speed limit and 4,410 summonses for breaking the red traffic light.
He said motorcars formed the highest number of vehicles for both offences with 56,532 summonses followed by motorcycles (5,263 motices) and others (1,955 notices).
“So far, we have 45 AES cameras throughout the country with 29 cameras to track down vehicles exceeding the speed limit while 16 cameras were for detecting vehicles breaking the red traffic light,” he told reporters after the passing out parade for Road Transport Officers after completing the basic training at the Malaysian Road Transport Academy yesterday. - Bernama
