KOTA KINABALU: Twin sisters Ngan Siew Lin and Ngan Siew Ni, 24, were among the recipients of first class degrees at the sixth session of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) convocation yesterday.

They both received a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Education (Education with Science) from the vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr. D Kamarudin D Mudin.

The twins said they were never separated since they were born and felt that UMS was the perfect university for them to continue their education and achieve their ambition.

“We share the same ambition, which is to become teachers and contribute to the educational development of the younger generation,” they said.

Siew Lin said that both their aspirations to become teachers began when they were still in primary school.

“Our English teacher Madam Wong Chin Ching, from SJK (C ) Sam Lam, Sibu, Sarawak became our source of inspiration,” she said.

The duo, who come from Sibu, said that they were inspired by the teaching method adopted by their teacher to educate them.

“It was filled with dedication and diligence that we could easily understand her lessons,” they said.

The second pair of twin sisters who also attained first-class degrees at UMS yesterday were Ratha Gunasegran and Sangetha Gunasegran.

They hail from Pulau Pinang and attained a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours (Children and Family Psychology).

Ratha said that they plan to continue studying in the future.

“However, we will first look for employment for two or three years and attain some work experience in the field we have selected,” she said.
