MTA inspires industry leaders to sustain professional excellence

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) has encouraged its leaders to continue to pursue high professionalism whilst pushing the boundaries of best standards of the industry.

According to MTA, the diversity and complexity of the post-modern era places new and important challenges for the Takaful industry.

The association noted that without having fulfilled the requirements pertaining to the education, it is difficult for the industry to achieve the prerequisites of professionalism.

“Excellence is not static. To remain professional and to lead, there is a need to not only exceed expectations but also to develop ways of assessing and measuring these expectations,” MTA chief executive officer (CEO) and executive secretary Azli Munani said.

“The element of professionalism demands that we safeguard and sustain the integrity of our profession and the industry”.

MTA in its statement yesterday, encouraged its leaders to continue to pursue high professionalism whilst pushing the boundaries of best standards of the industry. Empowering leaders with skills and knowledge who in turn inspire at every level, upand down their organisation is vital.

“We have to evolve together with the times; the digital era is within us and transformation is but a necessity”, Azli Munani added.

On that note, since last year, MTA has always encouraged its Management Committee to upskill further. Zurich Takaful Malaysia Bhd CEO Salim Majid Zain Abdul Majid and AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd CEO Elmie Aman Najas received the Fellowship of the Malaysian Insurance Institute (FMII) award in August 2017.

Continuing the Association’s pursuit for professional excellence, this year saw two CEOs from its member companies being conferred the FMII award recently. The recipients were Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Bhd CEO Muhammad Fikri Mohamad Rawi and Hong Leong MSIG Takaful Bhd CEO Mohd Asri Omar.

Muhammad Fikri was also awarded the Best Student Award by Subject for Ethics in Business (EIB). Being a Fellow of MII (FMII) indicates that the holder has attained the highest level of professional qualification and that they are committed to continuing professional development.

FMII fellowship, which is the most prestigious and highest level of professional insurance qualification in Malaysia, was presented to recipients during the MII graduation ceremony 2018 at Lanai Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia, early this month.

Since its launch in 2016, a total of 48 CEOs and senior industry leaders have attained the FMII award, including 39 from Malaysia, seven from Indonesia, and one each from Cambodia and Myanmar.
