3-day wait for diesel

-

KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Datuk Junz Wong has called on all parties concerned to work together to resolve the problem of diesel supply at the Safma jetty.

Junz issued the statement in response to public complaints on the unavailability of diesel at the jetty, where it was reported that more than 60 fishing vessels were queuing at the jetty as there was no supply of diesel for the last three days.

Meanwhile, Ko-Nelayan clarified that on November 27, the Shell depot here had run out of stock and to fulfill KoNelayan’s 400,000 litres order, they had to get temporary supply from Petron Oil Company.

The 400,000 litres were meant for Fook Soon and Siong Ann jetties at 100,000 litres each, and 200,000 litres for Safma jetty.

Subsequently, on the same day, 80,000 litres were sent to Kudat that were meant for Siong Ann and Fook Soon jetties at 40,000 litres each, while another 40,000 litres were delivered to Safma jetty.

On November 28, 120,000 litres supply was scheduled for Safma jetty. However, a delay ensued in the delivery to Safma jetty due to the release of the Shell vessel from Sepanggar.

“This caused a delay in the delivery to Safma jetty,” Junz said, while directing KoNelayan to resolve the issue as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary difficulties to the fishermen.
