Police report over plot to topple Perak MB

KUALA LUMPUR: Perak Pakatan Harapan (PH) secretariat chief, V. Sivakumar yesterday lodged a police report on alleged attempts to topple the leadership of Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Sivakumar, who is also the Member of Parliament for Batu Gajah, said he made the report at the Dang Wangi police station, here, this afternoon.

“There have been media statements by the former Perak MB (Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir) and State UMNO Liaison chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad on attempts to topple the Perak government, which was elected by the people through the democratic process.

“Datuk Saarani claimed there were state exco members wanting to topple the Perak MB’s leadership by contacting at least five state assemblymen from Umno, with various offers so as to support a vote of no confidence against (Datuk Seri) Ahmad Faizal, “he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

Sivakumar said the police report was made for a thorough investigation to be carried out and action taken against the culprits to ensure a plot to topple the state government would not recur.

On Tuesday, Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming confirmed the existence of a conspiracy to topple the leadership of Ahmad Faizal.

He said this was based on the revelation by the state exco member for Islamic Religion and Education, and Rural and Entrepreneur Development, Asmuni Awi on allegedly being approached by certain Perak Umno leaders who offered him the MB post and urged him to quit PH to form a new state government.

Sivakumar said two days ago, the issue had not only become a hot topic among politicians but also among the public.

“We received a lot of calls from ordinary people wanting to know what was happening in Perak. We want to know the truth, hence there needs to be a full investigation into this issue as we don’t want it to prolong and confuse the people,” he said. - Bernama
