Senator presents RM10,000 for chapel building fund

-

MIRI: Senator Alan Ling Sie Kiong yesterday presented RM10,000 in federal government special project grant to the building fund of the proposed Roman Catholic Church chapel in Permyjaya here.

The cheque was handed over to catechist John Gajah and committee members of the Holy Spirit Chapel at his office.

John expressed appreciation to the senator for his prompt action in extending a helping hand to their chapel building efforts, and prayed that more funds would be contributed in support of this project.

The new chapel is needed to cater for the growing demand of spiritual needs in Permjaya.

The fundraising committee is seeking to raise RM3.5 million for building the new chapel on a piece of land allocated by the Sarawak government.

Church-goers currently have to use a cramped building for their mass and other activities, leading the faithful to decide to build a new chapel.

Alan was approached by the committee in late September this year and pledged to assist them although as a senator he is not allocated project funds.

Ling submitted the request to the federal government and succeeded in securing a grant of RM10,000 for the chapel building fund.

“The amount may not be big but it is hoped that this will induce others to come forward to contribute in one way or another,” he said.
