Soo to hold talk on M’sia Agreement, Sarawak Oil Mining Ordinance
KUCHING: A self declared revisionist historian Lina Soo who penned several books on issues surrounding the making of Malaysia will hold a public talk on Malaysia Agreement and Sarawak Oil Mining Ordinance (OMO) here on Dec 9.
Starting at 2.30pm the talk will be held at Telang Usan Hotel.
Soo said she will talk about the effects and implications of OMO which is the ultimate game changer for Sarawak in its aspiration to strengthen its political and economic independence.
In a press statement yesterday, Soo reiterated that Sarawak is the landowner with sovereignty over oil and gas found in Sarawak since 1910, as was already ordained long before the formation of Malaysia.
Soo has compiled documents on Sarawak and Malaysia relating to Sarawak Oil Mining Ordinance 1958 and Amendment 2018, Inter-Governmental Report 1962 and its interpretation by the Colonial Office, Malaysia Agreement 1963 and Malaysia Act 1963 into one bumper book which will be available for purchase at the talk.
"Every Sarawakian concerned with Sarawak rights and sovereignty should get a copy of the book to read," said Soo, who penned two books on Sarawak based upon the British declassified colonial documents obtained first-hand from the National Archives in London called ‘Sarawak The Real Deal' and ‘Sarawak Chronicle'.
Sarawak The Real Deal deals with the Sarawak response to the Malaysia Plan in the 1960s, whilst Sarawak Chronicle collates all the important constitutional documents of Sarawak from 1841 to 1963, said Soo.
These two books form part of her Book Tour together with her OMO Roadshow, she added.
The talk will end with a sharing session involving all participants aimed at coming up with resolutions to reflect the peoples' aspiration for a better Sarawak for our future generations.
Admission to the talk is free. For further information, Soo can be reached (or WhatsApped) at 014-5950511.
