Stray animal sterilizat­ion campaign in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Lahad Datu will hold a stray animal sterilizat­ion campaign next year with the cooperatio­n of Tawau and Lahad Datu Veterinary Services Department.

The campaign, from January 46, will focus on the stray animal, especially cats and dogs in several areas in this district.

SPCA Lahad Datu chairman Lee Boon Keat said the campaign includes the process of catching the animals, inspecting their health condition and giving treatment such as vaccines or carrying out the neuter process.

Lee said they would go to the areas that had been identified to catch the animal and cooperatio­n from the public were highly needed during the process in the three-day campaign

He said member of public could also bring the stray animals in their respective areas to the campaign site at Chinese Middle School to receive treatment.

“This campaign aims to control the spread of diseases brought by wild animals, especially dogs and cats.

“This is also aims to ensure the animals will not become violent and threatenin­g the people,” he said.

Lee said member of public were also encouraged to join SPCA and work together to participat­e in more activities in the future.

He added that as a nongovernm­ental organisati­on, SPCA needed support in all aspects to achieve success in their mission.

During the meeting on the campaign yesterday, Lee and SPCA secretary, Teo Hui Jin also briefed the Chinese Chamber of Commerce president, Tan Cheng Teng.
