KOTA KINABALU: Five branches of the United Youth Movement of Malaysia (GBBM) Sabah have received the Five Star Rating Award.

The GBBM Sabah branches that were presented with the award were Ranau, Luyang, Taman Likas, Sembulan and Api-Api.

Registrar of Youth (West Coast Division) Officer Jius Gokin, who officiated at the award presentation ceremony, said the certification was given based on the national standard in the Star Rating System which was conducted by the Registrar of Youth (or ROY) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“The purpose of this certification is to encourage healthy competition among youth associations - to assess the performance of each youth association, level by level,” Jius said.

He explained that the Five Star Rating Award would serve as a formal recognition for the accomplished youth associations and that it aims to give them more publicity.

There are currently 10,806 youth associations in the country that have registered with ROY, 689 of these associations are from Sabah.

Only 21 youth associations in Sabah had managed to obtain the Five Star Rating Award and five of them are from GBBM Sabah.

In total, there are ten GBBM Sabah branches that are registered with ROY. Five have achieved the Five Star Rating, another two achieved the Four Star Rating while the remaining ones are currently rated three stars.
