KH Tan new Sabah Sports Board chairman
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Rugby Union deputy president Dr Tan Kah Hock (KH Tan) has been appointed as new chairman of Sabah Sports Board (SSB) for the 2018-2021 term.
Seven others, who were appointed as members of the board, are also new faces including deputy chairman Lau Kin Swa.
The other board members are King Sundra Lingam, Professor Dr Ismail Ali, Tan Jwee Peng, Dr Thevarajah, Terrance Baduk and Aliudin Jumaat.
All the board members received their appointment letters from Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung in a special swearing-in ceremony at the Sabah Sports Board in Likas yesterday.
The new appointments effectively replaced the previous board chaired by Datuk Louis Rampas following completion of tenure.
Frankie believes that the various expertise held by new line-up will help lead Sabah Sports Board to new heights.
“It is not an easy task as there are 15 sports complexes under the purview of Sabah Sports Board but I believe the the new line-up comprising government and nongovernment employees can help drive SSB forward.
“It is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to ensure that government-built sports facilities will always be managed well in order to serve their purposes,” he said.
Frankie said the main role of SSB was to provide sporting facilities to athletes and the public so that a healthy and productive society can be created while producing outstanding state athletes.
Frankie hoped that the facilities and every available space would be fully utilised to generate income so as to minimise financial dependence on government for the operation of sports complexes in the state.
“Using the space of the sports complexes to display paid advertisements as well as renting out space to stall operators and for events are among the things that can be done to generate revenue,” he said.
He said the SSB would also use e-Services in the near future to provide fast and efficient services (like payments and bookings) to customers.
Also present at the ceremony were Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Arunarnsin Taib, permanent secretary Datuk Awang Damit Awang Anak, deputy permanent secretary Ghulam Rasul, Sabah Sports Council director Terrance Edward Pudin and SSB deputy general manager Mohd Asneh Mohd Noor.
