Selangor paddlers showed their prowess by domina ng the team event finals at the 31st Milo Malaysia Hopes Table Tennis Championships in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
KOTA KINABALU: Selangor paddlers showed their prowess by dominating the team event finals at the 31st Milo Malaysia Hopes Table Tennis Championships, here, yesterday.
Selangor team captured three titles including a double in the under-13 category. They also won the boys' under-10 final when they routed Sarawak 3-0.
A similar drubbing on Johor enabled Selangor to emerge champions in the boys' under13 category. They completed the double after a 3-1 win against Kuala Lumpur in the girls' final.
Four finals were held on Day 2 of the prestigious ongoing annual championship at Dewan Maksak in Likas.
Kuala Lumpur edged Selangor 3-2 in the girls' under10 final to deny Selangor a clean-sweep of the team event titles.
En route to the finals, Selangor beat Kuala Lumpur 3-1 in the boys' under-13, while Johor defeated Penang 3-1 in the other semi-final match. In the girls' section, Selangor beat Negeri Sembilan 3-0, while Kuala Lumpur beat Sarawak, also 3-0.
In the under-10 category, Selangor beat Johor 3-1 to reach the boys' finals, while Sarawak beat Kuala Lumpur 3-0 in the other semi-final match. In the girls' section, Kuala Lumpur beat Melaka 31, while Selangor went through after beating Negeri Sembilan, 3-2.
For Sabah, their campaign ended in the quarterfinals after suffering defeats in the boys' and girls' under-13 and under-10 categories.
They lost 3-0 to Kuala Lumpur in the boys under13, after a similar defeat to Negeri Sembilan in the girls category.
In the boys' under-10, Sabah lost to Johor and Kuala Lumpur by identical score of 3-0 in the girls' category.
The table tennis action continues today with the first round fixtures of the singles competition, after the doubles matches got under way last night.
The championship concludes on Sunday with the semi-final and final matches.
