-

KOTA KINABALU: Christmas was celebrated at the Kota Kinabalu Court Complex here yesterday by its staff, including judges.

High Court Justice Datuk Martin Idang in his speech said the auspicious gathering was the first Christmas party held at the foyer of the new courthouse.

“This has been a very interesting and successful year for the judiciary. I would say challenging too but really, every year has its challenges. We’ve come through this one as you would expect, strong and full of momentum,” he said.

Wishing all the guests a happy and blessed Christmas, Martin lauded the efforts of the court staff to organize the event, which took place outside of regular working hours.

“I do hope we will continue to have this auspicious gathering next year, not for the sake of the food but to strengthen our bonds, irrespective of race and religion,” he added.

The event, which was initiated by Martin, Justice Datuk Nurchaya Hj Arshad and judicial commissioners Ismail Brahim and Celestina Stuel Galid, was also attended by lawyers, police officers and the staff family members.

Christmas carols were performed by the court staff, including some magistrates, and there were gift exchange between staff, and the appearance of Santa Claus to entertain the children.
