Keningau take on Papar in Charity Shield today

KOTA KINABALU: The KDMM Football League 2018/2019 coorganisi­ng chairman Henry Saimpon said they were ready for the big day as the second edition of the tournament kicks off with the Charity Shield at Keningau Stadium today.

“All the preparatio­ns are implemente­d as planned. We are only waiting for the big kick-off,” he said during a last check for the match venue yesterday.

Henry added that all the lucky draw prizes including four motorcyles, 20 bicycles and 50 hampers too had been received.

The Charity Shield match will pit the inaugural League champions KDM Keninngau against the FA Cup winners KDM Papar expected to kick off after the opening ceremony at 4pm.

Apart from the main event, there will be side programmes starting 8am including sports carnival that will contest a seven-a-side football tournament involving all the teams playing in the KDMM Football league except for Keningau and Papar.

There will also be blood donation, campaign and free health checks.

As for the lucky draws, all the fans need to do is register their name at the venue starting at 8am to get their ticket. Entrance into the stadium is free.

The first batch of lucky winners will be picked at 3pm and then the rest during the official opening of the league.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Frankie Poon will officiate at the opening ceremony and Infrastruc­ture Developmen­t Minister-cum-KDM Malaysia president Datuk Peter Anthony will also be present.

The KDMM Football League is organised by KDM Malaysia in associatio­n with the ministry offers prize money of over RM300,000.
