SANDAKAN: The wife of Head of State, Toh Puan Datin Seri Panglima Norlidah R.M. Jasni, visited the foster family of a fatal accident victim in Sri Taman, Mile, here yesterday.

She was accompanied by Minister of Health and People’s Wellbeing cum Sandakan MP Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt.

The victim was a 17-year-old student named Sofianah Azhar, who was hit by a car when she was selling traditional cakes by the roadside, in front of Sri Taman Mosque here last Tuesday.

Sofianah passed away at Hospital Duchess of Kent around 4.40am on Wednesday, and missed her last SPM paper, Chemistry, on the same day.

Sofianah’s foster father, Sidani Abdullah, 49, who had raised her, said the deceased had wanted to pursue her studies after SPM to become a nurse.

He said Sofianah was a wellbehaved student at school, and was hardworking in helping out at the stall selling “kuih” at by the roadside.

“We are all very sad after she passed away. She left behind her cat which she loved a lot. She named the cat ‘orang kaya’ and now ‘orang kaya’ will never be the same without Sofianah around,” he said.

Sofianah had been living with her foster family since birth as her parents are living on an island here.
