Anti-ICERD rally ends earlier due to rain

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The assembly to reject the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) at Jalan Raja ended earlier than schedule following rain in the federal capital yesterday evening.

The assembly which began at 2pm was originally planned to end at 6pm but some of the participants were seen starting to leave the location at about 4.30pm when it began to rain and the assembly was over after that.

Among those present were former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang. Ahmad Zahid and Hadi also spoke at the assembly. The assembly organisers earlier reported that the assembly was held as a gesture of gratitude over the decision of the government in not ratifying the convention and to continue defending the Federal Constitution.
