Sabah karatekas bag 2 sil­ver, 7 bronze medals

KOTA KINABALU: Sho­tokan Karate As­so­ci­a­tion of Sabah (SKAS) bagged two sil­ver and seven bronze medals at the Sho­tokai Brunei Open Karate Cham­pi­onship, last week.

The two-day tour­na­ment which was held in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Brunei Tourism Board was given a royal grace by Yang Amat Mu­lia Pen­gi­ran Anak Raafiah Amalul Bulqiah Ibni duli Yang Tera­mat Mu­lia Paduka Seri Pen­gi­ran Ben­da­hara Seri Ma­haraja Per­maisuara Pen­gi­ran Muda Haji Sufri Bolkiah.

SKAS pres­i­dent sen­sei Si­mon Chia said the Princess of Brunei stayed dur­ing the whole day and min­gled with the crowd.

“She was very down to earth and I think that helped to in­spire ev­ery­one dur­ing the event,” he said.

Ac­cord­ing to Si­mon, the medals came from Andryan Chong Sze Hoong and Bryan Isi­dore Tubong, while the bronze came from the rest of the ath­letes.

“It was an­other tour­na­ment wherein we had to aim high to im­prove our stan­dards and learn from the other ath­letes. Some cat­e­gories were very strong in­deed,” he said.

To­wards this end, Si­mon thanked ev­ery­one in the as­so­ci­a­tion in­clud­ing the ath­letes and their par­ents for their ut­most sup­port and com­mit­ment for the out­ing.

“We could not have done it with­out their sup­port. And to the or­gan­is­ing chair­per­son, sen­sei Mo­ham­mad Nabil and team, we con­grat­u­late them for a job well done and gen­er­ous hos­pi­tal­ity. We felt very wel­come,” he said.
