Three family members among four killed in collision
LIPIS: Four people died while another six were injured in an accident involving two cars at Kilometer 16, Jalan Lipis- BentaRaub yesterday afternoon.
The incident at 4.46 p.m killed the driver of a Proton Waja car, Mukhtar Hassan, 62, his wife Khatijah Hussin, 61, and their grandson Ahmad Fakhrul Muslim Ahmad Ridhwan, two, whose addresses were in Tumpat, Kelantan.
Lipis District Police Chief Supt Azry Akmar Ayob said also killed was the driver of a Perodua Myvi, Muhamad Samsol Kamal Mat Arifin, 22, military personnel at the Army headquarters in Jalan Padang Tembak, Kuala Lumpur.
Two other passengers in the Proton Waja – Mukhtar’s daughter, Zalimawati Mukhtar, 34, (Ahmad Fakhrul’s mother) and his granddaughter Zulaikha Basyirah Ahmad Ridwan,10 (Zalimawati’s daughter) – suffered serious injuries.
Three other passengers in the Proton Waja – Mohd Alif Haikal Abdullah, 11, (Zalimawati’s son), Mukhtar’s grandnephew Shek Ibrahim Shek Dawood, 13, and his twin Nur Zurina Shek Dawood – suffered slight injuries.
Muhamad Samsol’s wife, Norshafiqah Mohd Yusof, 21, also suffered slight injuries in the accident.
“The accident occurred when the car driven by Muhamad Samsol from the direction of Kuala Lipis heading towards Benta failed to overtake another vehicle before colliding with the Proton Waja in which the other family was travelling in from the opposite direction,” Azry Akmar said when contacted here yesterday.
He added that Khatijah and Mohamad Samsol died at the scene while Mukhtar and Ahmad Fakhrul Muslim died while receiving treatment at the Kuala Lipis Hospital intensive care unit.
“All the victims who died have been taken to the morgue for a postmortem while the six who were injured are still being treated at the same hospital.
“The accident occurred at a bend along a stretch of the two-lane road, the weather was downcast and there was a slight drizzle,” Azry Akmar said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
