Churches receive Christmas goodies from KK MP and Assemblymen

-

KOTA KINABALU: For the past two days, Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin, together with Luyang assemblyman Phoong Jin Zhe and Likas assemblyman Tan Lee Fatt, distributed gifts to various churches around Kota Kinabalu.

Chan said, this is to express the celebration of cultural diversity that Sabahans enjoy leading up to Christmas day, a public holiday enjoyed by all ethnic groups in Malaysia despite having its origin in Christianity.

“I am happy to have received such warm welcome from all the churches we visited over the past 2 days. Maybe the gifts we brought made us look a bit like Santa Claus,” joked Phoong, the Luyang assemblyman.

The three DAP YBs brought gifts to the churches to be distributed to children in an effort to celebrate cultural diversity and to promote understanding among different religious groups.

The churches are Church of Mary Immaculate (CMI) Bukit Padang, Sacred Heart Cathedral Karamunsing, St. John’s Cathedral Kopungit, Baptist Church Kepayan Ridge, Glory Christian Church Damai, Basel Christian Church of Malaysia Foh Sang and Basel Christian Church of Malaysia Likas.

“We want to celebrate cultural diversity and to cultivate racial harmony in this New Malaysia. While tensions were rising over the two polarizing rallies in KL, we want to enjoy and celebrate the unique diversity we enjoy here in Sabah,” they emphasized.

“There’s nothing more beautiful than loving one another. In this Christmas season, we want to treat others the way we would like to be treated, especially those who are different from us, we want to share their joy and celebration too,” they said.
