Soo not happy with way GPS leaders handle rabies issue

-

KUCHING: Sarawak Reform Party (STAR) president Lina Soo is disappointed with the way Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders are handling the rabies issue in the state.

Speaking at a press conference here yesterday, she pointed out that the deadly disease has continued to spread since the outbreak and has claimed 13 lives thus far.

“We want the minister to be more pro-active and take the necessary action to relocate all the stray dogs.

“Why is rabies getting worse? What is the problem? The minister in charge ought to do something to ensure that Sarawak has zero rabies,” she said.

She added that what riled her up even further was that the minister in charge continued to inform the public on what they should do when bitten by dogs.

“This does not prevent rabies. We must know what is the cause. Rabies can be contained and no one should get bitten by dogs,” she said.

On another matter, Soo also urged the Sarawak government to conduct a thorough investigation into the explosion at CityONE Megamall which occurred last week.

She suggested that, if need be, the state government outsource experts to identify the exact cause of the explosion, whether it was due to weak structure of the building or gas leak.

“I feel angry when the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman said it was an accident.

“No, he should not have easily come to a conclusion that what happened was an accident. Something has to be done about this incident because it involves the lives of the public.”
