Sabah weightlifters add two more golds, one silver

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah added two gold and one silver medals to their collections in the National Senior and Junior Weightlifting Championships at Starcity Asia City here yesterday.
With the addiditional medals, hosts Sabah improved their tally to seven gold, four silver and three bronze medals going into the final day of competition today.
Marceeta Marlyn Marcus, as expected, delivered both the golds in the women’s 59kg category for senior and junior competition respectively. The Bukit Jalil-based Marceeta won with her total lift of 163kg after managing 67kg in snatch and 96kg in Clean & Jerk.
St Xavier Henry won the other medal for Sabah when he finished second in the men’s 89kg for junior category, lifting a combined weight of 225kg.
He lifted 100kg in Snatch and 125kg for Clean & Jerk).
The penultimate day of the competition offered 10 gold medals in total with the Armed Forces (ATM), Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) and Perak joining Sabah winning two each.
The two remaining golds were shared between Terengganu and Johor with one each.
With the double gold from Marceeta, Sabah remained top of the medal standings with seven gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
Selangor survived a gold-less outing yesterday to remain second on five gold and one silver while ATM are third on four gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
The race for the top of the leadersboard is still open with seven weight divisions to be contested on the final day of the championship today.
The weight divisions are men’s 102kg, 109kg, +109kg and women’s 71kg, 76kg, 87kg and +87kg.
