LAHAD DATU: A plantation worker was slashed to death at the quarters of a plantation in Tungku on November 29 over allegation that he stole RM400.

District police chief ACP Nasri Mansor in a statement yesterday said they had detained 12 individuals, including two women, aged between between 21 and 54 following the incident.

Nasri said they were picked up since December 6 and the latest arrest was made on December 11, following police investigation. “The main suspect of the incident, identified as Darwin @ Takui, 26, is still at large and the police are still tracking down the suspect,” he said.

According to Nasri, the police received a tip about the incident on December 5, through screenshots of conversation in Facebook where one of the comments was written as “Chi Egar’s loading worker’s neck was slashed last night (tukang loadingnya Chi Egar dek kena potong lehernya semalam).

Following the information, the police launched surveillance at Tambisan areas and met the plantation’s manager who later informed about the location of the incident that the manager heard from the people.

The manager also informed that few workers who fled the plantation in Tungku were hiding in a house at the plantation in Tambisan.

“Six men were later nabbed from the plantation in Tambisan and later revealed the murder incident in the plantation in Tungku on November 29.

“The Facebook’s owner was called in to assist in investigation and later revealed the location of the funeral as well as victim’s grave,” he said.

Nasri said the grave at a plantation in Kampung Manar, Tungku was later dug up on December 7, after obtaining a court order.

A post-mortem on December 10 revealed that the victim’s cause of death was due to slash wound on his neck.

“The motive of the incident was believed due to the suspect’s accusation that the victim stole RM400.

“However, investigation into the case is still ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he added.
