Baru Bian urges Sarawak PKR to recruit new members
MUKAH: Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) members are urged to continue recruiting new members and to open branches in the villages or in longhouses throughout the state.
This is to strengthen the party and prepare for the 12th State Election within the next two years, said Sarawak PKR chairman, Baru Bian here yesterday.
According to him, the dream of the people to change the government at the central level had been achieved in the 14th General Election (GE14) in May and this shows that the party’s struggle for the past 20 years was not in vain.
“Continue by opening branches in villages and longhouses because our struggle is not over,” he said when opening the PKR Mukah branch office at Mukah Biotech Economic Zone here yesterday.
According to him, the party’s struggle in the state has not yet been resolved specifically in relation to ownership of indigenous customary land rights.
The issue will only be resolved by changing the existing state government.
“Although they have politically changed their names, but their leaders are the same people and implementing the same policies,” he said.
After Barisan Nasional (BN) lost in GE14, the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, the Sarawak People’s Party, the Sarawak United People’s Party and the Progressive Democratic Party left BN and formed the Gabungan Parti Sarawak which was registered last month.
Baru who was also Works Minister when met after the ceremony said he was aware of the inconvenience to road users due to the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway project especially on the Sibu-Selangau stretch.
“The construction project is underway and I am always informed of the progress of the road but the important thing is that the contractors involved in the project are always emphasising the safety aspect of the users,” he said.
