Assistant ministers praise USCCAKK for organising CNY Festival
KOTA KINABALU: The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) committee, led by president Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen, has called on Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Jimmy Wong, Assistant Finance Minister Kenny Chua and Assistant Minister of Trade and Industries Ben Chong to brief them on the upcoming Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival and Cultural Village Exhibition on January 19.
Susan said the association had been organizing the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival for more than 30 years.
“Over time, we have seen the number of participating troupes grew from about 10 teams in the early years to over 100 teams.”
On the other hand, she said the Cultural Village Exhibition entered its sixth year. The exhibition features Chinese New Year pastries and teas prepared by the 15 clan associations under USCCAKK.
Additionally, the associations will take part in the Cheongsam and Tang suit contest.
During the courtesy calls, Susan thanked the assistant ministers for their great support towards the event.
She also urged Kota Kinabalu folks to bring their families along to the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival and Cultural Village Exhibition on January 19.
Meanwhile, Jimmy, Chua and Chong lauded USCCAKK’s perseverance and efforts in promoting and preserving Chinese traditional cultures in Sabah. They also agreed to attend the event.
The Cultural Village Exhibition will be held at the corridor of Likas Sports Complex starting from 8am.
The Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival will take place from 1pm to 7pm on the same day.
Apart from thrilling dragon, unicorn and lion dances, there will be special appearance by the God of Fortune, luminous dragon dance and 24 drums performance. Admission is free.
Also present at the courtesy calls was USCCAKK deputy president Datuk Chua Soon Ping.
