Request for milk powder for Putatan fire victims

-

PUTATAN: Sabah Youth Council (SYC) will refuse donations of used clothes for the recent fire victims in Putatan due to overabundance.

SYC president Ahmad Farid Sainuri, when met during a visit at the Putatan mini hall which sheltered the fire victims, said currently SYC would provide only essential items such as dry food and toiletries.

“We have met the (Putatan) District Officer and discussed with him regarding providing manpower for a ‘gotong-royong’ and (collection of donation goods) to avoid piling of certain donated goods so that the donation distribution would be more efficient and sufficient.

“Today we bring additional pillows, blankets and towels as well as dry food. We avoid cooked food because on Friday, we were informed that there was an overabundance of cooked food. So we focus more on dry food and daily necessities.

“I urge donors to contact NGOs or the authorities in advance before donating goods in order to avoid overabundance as well as for better management,” he said.

He also said SYC could be contacted through Facebook at Majlis Belia Sabah.

Meanwhile, Pertubuhan Suara Anak Muda Sabah (Suara) president Helmi Shahril, said Suara would cooperate with SYC in providing volunteers to lend a helping hand to the authorities in providing aid to the fire victims.

Helmi said Suara brought children disposable diapers and made requests for milk powder for children and ‘telekung’ (praying attire) yesterday.
