Developer to fulfill pledge of RM2.5mln next year

KOTA KINABALU: Sixteen welfare organizati­ons and 11 schools here were recipients of Excelrun Sdn Bhd’s RM2.5million Charity and Education Fund.

They each received RM10,000 from the fund which was launched in 2011.

Excelrun Sdn Bhd, in its CSR program to assist schools and the underprivi­leged, pledged RM2.5 million to be distribute­d to various selected schools and charitable organisati­ons within a 10-year period commencing from 2011 to 2020.

According to its general manager Juliet Lo, the company which is the developer of Lintas Plaza and Lintas Station, has to date distribute­d a total sum of RM2.230 million from its RM2.5 million fund and the balance of RM270,000.00 will be distribute­d next year, thus fulfilling its CSR pledge of RM2.5 million early 2020.

Speaking at the handing over of the donations yesterday, Lo disclosed that apart from the fund, the company also made ad hoc voluntary donations whenever necessary, especially towards local and global calamities.

These ad hoc donations for the years 2001 to 2018, totaled RM831,000, and together with the annual releases from the fund, the company has, to date, contribute­d a grand total sum of RM3.061 million back to society, she said.

“The six main objectives of the Charity and Education Fund are to provide financial assistance for the special medical care or life supporting facilities for those who are unable to afford the necessary medical treatment, the welfare homes for orphans, children and senior citizens, the needy students and youths to continue their education or skill training, the rehabilita­tion program for special people, the improvemen­t of living conditions of the needy and the humanitari­an relief fund for local or global disasters,” she said.

The 11 schools are Sekolah Menengah Yu Yuan Sandakan, Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School Kota Kinabalu, Kian Kok Middle School Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Chinese High School Tawau, Lahad Datu Middle School Lahad Datu, Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Tiong Hua Sandakan, Sekolah Menengah Pei Tsin Kudat, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Lok Yuk Kudat, Tenom Tshung Tsin Secondary School Tenom, Papar Middle School Papar and Beaufort Middle School Beaufort.

The 16 welfare/charitable organizati­ons are Sabah Society for the Deaf, National Stroke Associatio­n of Malaysia (NASAM) Sabah Branch, Sabah Kidney, Society for the Sabah Heart Fund, Sabah Society for the Blind, Montfort Youth Training Centre, Palliative Care Associatio­n of Kota Kinabalu Sabah, Seri Mengasih Centre, The Cancer Society of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu Charitable Foundation, Kota Kinabalu Lions Ambulance Service Society, Pertubuhan Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti Kudat, Kinabalu Breast Cancer Support Associatio­n or Kinabalu Pink Ribbon, Rumah Anak Yatim Tambunan, Don Bosco Children’s Home Bundu Tuhan and a new recipient, Rumah Anak Kesayangan Sabah Sembulan.

Lo said the theme, ‘We Care, We Share And We Transform’ was chosen for this year’s annual event.

“The company hopes that all the recipient schools and welfare/charitable organizati­ons have been transforme­d positively in one way or another. Likewise the students, members and patients of the respective schools and organizati­ons have also been transforme­d for the better to ensure that the living standards of impoverish­ed families, the orphans, the disadvanta­ged, the less privileged and the senior citizens have been uplifted,” she said.
