Work together to organise more cultural events, NGOs urged

-

KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Health and People’s Wellbeing Datuk Stephen Wong has expressed respect for the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS), led by Tan Sri T.C. Goh, for taking up the responsibility to organize the Chinese New Year Carnival 2019.

He urged more nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to emulate FCAS and put more effort into organizing cultural events in Sabah for the benefit of the people.

Wong acknowledged the challenges in organizing such a major event and undertaking the effort to promote the Chinese culture.

As such, NGOs should work hand in hand in organizing more cultural events such as the Chinese New Year Carnival and the State Government would always support healthy activities, Stephen said during a courtesy visit by Goh and his committee members in conjunction with the upcoming annual CNY Carnival to be held at Lintasan Deasoka on February 1 and 2.

The opening of the carnival will be officiated by the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal on February 1 at 7pm, while Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew will close it the next day.

The two-night event will feature cultural shows, singing and dancing performed by Chinese schools in Kota Kinabalu.

The highlight of the programme is fireworks display to usher in prosperity and happiness to the people in Sabah in the Lunar New Year.
