Sandakan MP begins CNY walkabout at night market

-

SANDAKAN: Health and People's Wellbeing Minister Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt conducted a walkabout at the Kim Fung night market at mile 4 Labuk road here last Saturday night to bring Chinese New Year greetings to the locals while giving out free calendars.

Also present was Elopura assemblyman Calvin Chong Ket Kiun.

According to Wong, who is Sandakan member of parliament, it has become a practice for him to go to the ground to meet the locals prior to a festive season, which includes Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Harvest Festival and Christmas.

He said in Sabah, we celebrate all festivities together as Sabahans regardless of one's race or religion.

Meanwhile, Wong disclosed that he has plans to upgrade the Kim Fung night market based on the locals' suggestions.

“Of course, we will improve the market from time to time, but we will do it within our financial capability. Elopura assemblyman, Calvin Chong, will be the one handling the market but I will help, if needed. We will try our best to fulfill what the locals want,” he added.
