Bank staff to get 10-12% pay hike

The Sabah Commercial Banks Associa on (SCBA) and the Sabah Banking Employees’ Union (SBEU) signed their 15th Collec ve Agreement (CA) yesterday.

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Commercial Banks Associatio­n (SCBA) and the Sabah Banking Employees’ Union (SBEU) signed their 15th Collective Agreement (CA) yesterday.

Human Resources Minister M Kulasegara­n, who witnessed the ceremony yesterday said that the agreement, set for 2018 to 2020, would benefit almost 1,300 SBEU members consisting of 14 banks in Sabah and Labuan.

“I congratula­te the parties, SCBA and SBEU for being profession­al in concluding negotiatio­n without any deadlock or referring to a third party for interventi­on.

“They were able to sit together and conclude this Collective Agreement successful­ly,” Kulasegara­n said in his speech.

Among the benefits in the new agreement were salary adjustment­s for non-clerical at 12 per cent, salary adjustment­s for senior clerks and clerks at 10 per cent, pilgrimage leave of seven working days for non-Muslims and Muslims and zero interests for the first housing loan of RM100,000.

“As for maternity leave, there will be an additional three months’ half pay leave.

“The agreement will also allow pregnant women of 22 weeks to leave office one hour before the office hours ends.

“Female employees will also enjoy an increase when delivering a baby - RM1,500 for caesarean operation and RM1,000 for normal delivery,” he said.

“This Collective Agreement has also brought about a new revolution - it has agreed to encourage the bank to provide lactation room for female employees and allowance for disabled spouses or children,” he added.

There will also be an increase in annual leave of one day, an increase in personal medical and family medical benefits and a 10 per cent increase for other allowances.

He said that those already reaching their maximum salary would be able to enjoy a two-year increment of which the increment can be translated up to 16 per cent adjustment in the new maximum salary.

“This is indeed good news especially for those who have reached their maximum salary,” he said.

Also present in the event were SCBA president Liew Kui Choi, SBEU president Margaret Chin Sat Peng, SBEU general gecretary Catherine Jikunan and Malaysan Commercial Banks Associatio­n president Nora Manaf.
