Problems at Lahad Datu fish, poultry markets need immediate action – rep
LAHAD DATU: The relevant authorities have been urged to take action on several issues at the fish and poultry markets in this district.
Assistant Rural Development Minister Dumi Pg Masdal noted that the fish market is facing various problems relating to licensing, hygiene, illegal hawkers and others.
Dumi said he had received many complaints from the public and these problems had been discussed during the recent meeting of the authorities, who have been directed to take immediate remedial action.
However, he said during his recent visit to the fish market, he found the conditions at the market were not in a proper order, the prices of goods were not displayed and goods were sold at unreasonable prices. He also believed that some stalls were rented out to third parties.
“Not only the fish market, we also noted various issues relating to the poultry market, which is currently operating in a collapsed building.
“I also noticed that waste management at both markets was improper and disorganized as the waste were seen being thrown into the sea,” he said.
Dumi said during the recent district action council meeting, which was also attended by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohammadin Ketapi and Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Assafal P Alian, the issue at the poultry market would require to be resolved before the Hari Raya celebration this year.
Dumi, who is also Lahad Datu assemblyman, therefore urged that immediate action is taken to resolve the problems for the convenience of the people here.
