Rela urged to organise more programs to promote unity
KOTA KINABALU: Honorary deputy commissioner of the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), PPjKR Datuk Wong Chong Fah, has urged Rela to organize more programs and activities in effort to strengthen the relations between personnel of different races and religions.
Speaking at a Chinese New Year celebration organized by Rela Kota Kinabalu here on Saturday, Wong said Rela is unique because its personnel celebrate the festive seasons together, irrespective of their backgrounds.
“Apart from Chinese New Year, Rela personnel also celebrate Harvest Festival, Hari Raya and Christmas with friends from different religions. Such programs and activities should continue to be held as it will strengthen the esprit de corp among us,” he said.
Wong added that the quality and Key Performance Index (KPI) of Rela Kota Kinabalu is among the best in Sabah.
He praised Rela personnel for sacrificing their energy and family time to carry out security patrols, particularly Rela Luyang where he lives.
“I feel safe with their presence. I wish to thank Rela personnel who are involved in patrols to prevent crimes,” he added.
Wong also pledged to give his strong support to Rela Kota Kinabalu at the event.
Meanwhile, Rela Kota Kinabalu officer, superintendent (PgR) Bakry Md Baily, said Rela personnel have taken part in a gotong-royong activity in Dah Yeh Villa prior to attending the Chinese New Year celebration.
“Although this is a Chinese majority area, those who joined in the gotong-royong are Dusun, Bajau and personnel from other races. This programme serves to promote unity in Sabah, especially in Rela,” he said.
Also present were PgR Ady Tey Ching Wen, Honorary PgR Phang Jyn Yenn, Kapitan Li Su Fook and Rela Kota Kianbalu assistant officer, PgR Salevistere Tinius.
