Sabahans will decide Bersatu’s future in the state — Anifah

KOTA KINABALU: Kimanis MP Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said he has no objection to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) coming to Sabah but reminded all that Sabahans hold the key to the party’s future in the state.

“Mindful of my respect to democracy inherent in our system, I have no objection to Bersatu’s entry into Sabah.

“Ultimately it is the people of Sabah who will decide which party that best represents their interests and that of the state,” said Anifah in a statement yesterday.

The former Foreign Minister pointed out that Sabahans want to see the implementation of the terms of Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“I’m hopeful that the agenda of Bersatu’s entry into Sabah is to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Sabah to realise the implementation of the terms agreed in the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said.

According to Anifah, there is great urgency and sincerity to implement MA63 to allow the people to enjoy certain level of parity in the development of the country.

“Our states in Semananjung are fairly developed while we are still meeting challenges to develop Sabah due to our failure to fulfill the terms of MA63. I’m also mindful that to realise the terms agreed in the Malaysia Agreement 1963, the State Government must have cordial relationship with the Federal Government devoid of confrontation,” he stressed.

Anifah said the diversity of the people of Sabah has served well to parties that promote harmony amongst the people in Sabah and any attempt to disrupt the harmony based on religion and race will be devastating to the future of Sabah.
