Red Ants bring down the Red Giants

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Red Ants proved to be mightier than the Red Giants when PKNS FC stunned ‘big brothers’ Selangor 4-0 in their Super League match at the Shah Alam Stadium Sunday.

The match, played in front of just 5,200 spectators, also pitted two former national coaches - B. Sathianathan (Selangor) and Datuk K. Rajagopal (PKNS FC) - against one another.

And it was Rajagopal’s PKNS FC who emerged triumphant to keep Selangor searching for their first win of the season.

All four PKNS FC goals were scored by their foreign players - Nicholas Swirad of United Kingdom (27th minute), Liberian Kpah Sherman (49th), Cambodian Chan Vathanaka (79th) and Colombia’s Romel Oswaldo (90+1).

The win allowed PKNS FC to jump to the fifth spot in the 12team standings with four points from a win, a draw and a loss, while Selangor dropped two spots to eighth with two points from two draws and a defeat.

Selangor had earlier drawn 1-1 with Felda United and Petaling Jaya City FC while PKNS FC opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw with Terengganu FC before losing 1-2 to Melaka.

Meanwhile, in the only Premier League action today, Kelantan needed a last-minute goal to beat Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) FC 1-0 at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras.

Brazilian Flavio Beck was the hero for The Red Warriors when he netted in the 89th minute.

Kelantan moved up from 11th spot in the standings to sixth with four points while UKM remained in ninth spot with three points. - Bernama
