Council pledges to assist gymnastics association

-

KOTA KINABALU: Asneh Mohd Noor has assured Sabah State Gymnastics Association (SSGA) that they would assist in any way they could for their programmes to run smoothly after the departure of current coach Misaki Sakon.

Japanese coach Misaki is set to leave when her contracts ends in June and the fear is that the SSGA programmes that she had set up may be disrupted as a result of her departure.

Asneh, the newly appointed director of the Sabah Sports Council (SSC), however assured that they would try their best to help the association while waiting for Misaki’s replacement.

“I have observed her training when I was with the (Sabah) Sports Board and I know there is a pool of athletes under her since her arrival here.

“So, it will be a pity if there is no follow up or continuity as a result of her departure.

“That is we (SSC) will try our best to help the association so that the programme set up by Misaki will not be affected,” said Asneh.

Asneh was informed of Misaki leaving her post here during a recent courtesy call where she was accompanied by SSGA president Dr Judy Mahibol.

Misaki, 26, has been with SSGA since August 2017 as a voluntary worker under Japanese International Coorperation Agency (JICA) with contract until June this year.

Meanwhile, Judy said that they have applied for a successor to Misaki so as to continue the good works done by the latter here.

“It will take some time before we can get another coach under JICA so, it was very pleasing to hear that SSC will help us during those period.

“The association will continue to strive harder to develop and improve gymnastics while at the same time create opportunitues for the locals,” said Judy who thanked SSC and Sabah Sports Board for assistance given during Misaki’s stay here.

Also present at the courtesy call were SSC officers Mohd Noer abd Ramzaineh Minen.
