MFL may expel teams with financial problems — Kevin

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Football League (MFL) will review and verify all the documents received from the seven financially-strapped teams before deciding on the next course of action, including expelling the teams from this year’s Malaysia League.

MFL chief executive officer, Kevin Ramalingam said the teams, including Perlis FA, were given until today to submit all their documents.

The MFL will now study the teams’ financial status as well as verify the registration of their sponsors with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

“Last year, we expelled Kuantan FA from the league, and we may do the same thing with the teams this year. But we need to review all the documents first.

“Once all the information have been collated, we will forward them to the Board of Directors for their decision via a circular as we are running out of time to call for a meeting. We hope to reach a decision on Wednesday,” he said after the FA Cup 2019 first-round draw, here, yesterday.

Last Saturday, the MFL instructed the seven teams faced with the issue of unpaid wages to submit additional documents on their financial status within 48 hours.

The teams are Felda United, Perlis, Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Penang, Royal Malaysian Police and Melaka United. - Bernama
