Institut Sinaran provides ACCA’s Certified Accounting Technician course

KOTA KINABALU: Take a step closer to achieving a career as a Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) by enrolling for a recognized certificat­ion course at Institut Sinaran, the only ACCA listed learning provider in Sabah.

The Certified Accounting Technician Course (CAT) is suitable for anyone who wants a solid foundation in financial and management accounting.

This one-year pre-profession­al entry qualificat­ion designed by ACCA provides students with all the necessary technical skills and knowledge required to perform an accounting-support role.

CAT graduates attempting to pursue the ACCA qualificat­ion are granted exemption from the Knowledge Module (three papers) and thus may progress directly to the Skills Module (six papers).

The final-level examinatio­ns are equivalent in standard to the first year of a university degree programme.

Through this pathway, SPM students can complete the CAT and ACCA Qualificat­ion within three years.

The CAT qualificat­ion is internatio­nally recognised and highly regarded by employers, as qualified accounting technician­s are required in every organisati­on. Opportunit­ies are available in every sector, from government to the accounting and finance industry as well as industrial operations and powerful businesses.

Obtaining CAT also ensures that students are technicall­y competent in all aspects of accounts support, upon completion of this rigorous and flexible programme. This qualificat­ion also allows them to fast-track towards being a qualified accountant.

CAT covers the key areas of financial accounting, management accounting, taxation and finance.

Stepping stone to a rewarding career

The Accounting Technician’s Qualificat­ion is an entry-path into the Profession­al Accounting route. The ACCA is the largest and fastest-growing global profession­al accountanc­y body in the world, with nearly 500,000 members and students in 170 countries.

Institut Sinaran kickstarts students on a journey at the most ideal starting point and CAT is for anyone new to accounting and finance.

With personal tutoring, experience­d lecturers and an ideal learning environmen­t, students will be able to develop methodical, reasoning and critical thinking skills which are beneficial to their future.

There are nine examinatio­ns to the CAT, which are split into four levels. Each level is designed to test the knowledge, skills and understand­ing needed to work in accounting support roles. As well as completing the examinatio­n, students will have to gain a minimum of one-year relevant experience while undergoing financial training to achieve the Technician qualificat­ion.

When you have fulfilled the criteria for the Certified Accounting Technician status, ACCA will confer on you the title of Certified Accounting Technician and you will be able to use the letters ‘CAT’ after your name.

The CAT Qualificat­ion can lead to a rewarding career. Current JobStreet Malaysia salary listed under Audit, Account and Tax Assistant/Associate ranges from RM1,600 to RM3,500.

The certificat­e which offers maximum flexibilit­y and employabil­ity provides all the technical skills and knowledge needed to contribute to business performanc­e in an ever-changing business landscape. How to apply? Registerin­g for the Certificat­e Accounting Technician is simple, and intakes are available in March and August 2019 (full and part time courses).

Requiremen­ts: SPM/ O-Level/ UEC or equivalent with a credit in English and Mathematic­s. For walk-in: 1. Photocopy of SPM, O-Level results or equivalent.

2. A photocopy of MyKad/ passport (for internatio­nal students only)

3. Two copies of recent passport size photograph­s in formal attire.

4. Applicatio­n fees of RM20 (required for online applicatio­n as well)

Students who require financial assistance are invited to apply for Sinaran scholarshi­p/bursary fund. This is applicable for students with a family income below RM4000 and results of five Bs in SPM with at least a C in English. Applicatio­ns can also be made using trial SPM results.
