-

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have crippled a drug processing syndicate with nine individuals arrested including a mother and son in a raid on a two-storey terrace house in Setia Alam here last Thursday.

Selangor police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said the 12.30pm raid was the result of intelligence by Bukit Aman and Shah Alam Narcotics CIDs in the past few months.

He said the investigation found that the syndicate rented the house for RM1,500 a month to live and camouflage their drug laboratory operation over the last six months as the area was fully gated and guarded by security guards.

“During the raid, police seized 6.9kg of substances suspected to be heroin, 0.75kg of suspected heroin base, 1.25kg of suspected marijuana and 53.2kg caffeine powder estimated to be worth at RM149,585 as well as the drug laboratory’s processing apparatus.

“The police arrested eight local men and a local woman aged 19 to 65. The 65-year-old woman is unemployed and is suspected to be the mother of one of the suspects. We are investigating her role because all suspects are believed to be related,” he told a press conference, here yesterday.

Noor Azam said the drug processing laboratory was suspected to produce 30 to 35 kg of drugs every month for the local market.

“However, all the suspects who are working as security guards, plumbers and labourer have no previous criminal records while the results of their urine tests were negative as well,” he said, adding that the police were investigating if the syndicate had links with any secret society gang.

Besides drugs, Noor Azam said his department also seized six vehicles worth RM183,300 as well as RM3,700 in cash, various branded watches with an estimated value of RM3,000 and jewellery worth RM25,300.

He said all the suspects were remanded until Thursday and the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - Bernama
