App for women to market products locally, globally

-

KUCHING: An application named ‘ePreneurs Wanita’ will be launched on March 9 to provide a platform for local women to market their products locally and globally.

Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah told this to reporters after chairing Sarawak Women and Family Council (MWKS) first meeting of the year at a leading hotel here yesterday.

Fatimah said the app is expected to be launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during a ceremony to give out economic empowerment grants to entrepreneurs at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here.

By using the app, she said local women entrepreneurs will soon be able to promote and sell their products online to a wider market which will help to uplift their standard of living.

Among the areas discussed and to be given priority this year during the meeting are children care centre at workplaces, economic empowerment for entrepreneurs, safety and laws, women decision making, stronger family institution, and age.

Under safety and laws, she said amendment of adoption ordinance is one of the council’s agendas being studied to make the adoption process more transparent, and advocating for minimum marriage age to be raised to 18 years.

“Definitely we do not want them (children under the age of 18) to get married at a very early stage, for both boys and girls,” she said.

Fatimah said that it is crucial for all related agencies and nongovernmental organisations to work closely together in ensuring the priority areas are effectively addressed and tackled.

With Sarawak fast becoming an aging state, she said the government and ministry would have to prepare for the eventuality.

“We are slowly becoming an aging nation. We have to make preparations from the health and finance and housing aspects,” she said.
