Knuckle duster man among 20 held

KOTA KINABALU: A man with a knuckle duster was among 20 people arrested during a police operation on Monday.

City police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the suspect would face a charge under Section 7(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substance and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years.

He said the suspect was among 20 people arrested during an operation, dubbed “Ops Sarang” at Kampung Lokub and Kampung Lok Buno in Manggatal on February 25.

Police also detained a couple for drug possession and they would be charged under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he said.

“Eight men were also arrested and taken to the police headquarte­rs after their urine tested positive for drug abuse,” he said, adding that the suspects would be charged under Section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, he said 10 people, including a woman, would be referred to the Immigratio­n Department for staying in the country illegally.

In the nine-hour operation which began at 1pm on Monday, police seized 36 packets of crystal-like substance believed to be syabu weighing 16.24 grams.

“The drugs were believed meant for the local market with total street price of RM1,500,” said Habibi.

He added such an operation would be conducted from time to time, especially at hotspot areas to curb the drug menace in the state capital.

He welcomed cooperatio­n from the public in fighting drugs and other crime activities in their areas.
