Conference to enhance skills of One Stop Crisis Centre staff

-

LAHAD DATU: The Emergency and Trauma Department of Lahad Datu Hospital will hold a conference to increase understanding, knowledge and skill of its members in handling issues at the One Stop Crisis Centre (OSCC).

Head of department, Dr Muhazan Mazlan when met yesterday said the fifth conference also aimed to provide exposure to the procedures such as reporting, court proceeding, psychiatry and others that had been fixed.

“The increased cases involving domestic violence, rape and child abuse in this country had given a big impact on the physical and emotion of the victims.

“Therefore, this programme is in line with efforts in ensuring the healthcare staff are giving excellent assistance and service to the victims,” he said.

Muhazan said this programme would also provide exposure to other agencies involved in helping in OSCC cases such as the Welfare Department, Police, departments in the hospital as well as the non-governmental organisations.

He said this programme would also protect the Chain of Evidence in handling all the evidence and sampling as prescribed in Malaysian law.

“Therefore, it is hoped that this programme will be able to produce healthcare staff who have high competency and confidence based on knowledge,” he said.

Muhazan also disclosed that some 25 cases had been recorded under OSCC in 2018 compared to 29 cases in 2017. However, it is feared that the reduction in cases was not convincing as they might be unreported or unknown cases.

He said the victims should come to OSCC without hesitance as all the treatment, protection, law and related issues would be handled in one place.

He also hoped that members of public would be more alert and immediately send any individual who could be victims to OSCC for assistance.
