Ahmad Faedzal to add new dimension to NSI's operations

-

KUALA LUMPUR: National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive officer Ahmad Faedzal Md Ramli wants to bring a new dimension to playing a leading role in sports science and sports medicine.

He said NSI was also ready to cooperate with the National Sports Council (NSC), who handle the Podium Programme, in terms of preparing national athletes for the SEA Games in Manila at the end of this year and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

“The NSI's role will be like what it was, which is to provide services in sports science, sports medicine, as well as analyst expertise, like performance analysis.

“The NSI and NSC will have better collaboration to ensure our athletes are ready, especially for the SEA Games and 2020 Olympic Games, where the target for Tokyo is to win the country's first gold medal. We will strengthen our cooperation with NSC to achieve that aim,” he told reporters after the NSI board meeting yesterday.

Ahmad Faedzal said he would also focus on NSI's management and administration in an effort to create a harmonious working environment among officers and personnel for the benefit of the athletes, who were the institute's main clients.

He was also confident that the local workforce involved in the previous Podium Programme who were absorbed back into the NSI, would be able to help implement the institute's vision and mission in the development of sports science, sports medicine as well as national sports.

“When the Podium Programme was under the NSI, we had a lot of foreigners and our local scientists benefited from it.

“I am confident our local experts learned from the foreigners, and the three years spent working together in the Podium Programme will help them carry out any future assignment,” he said, adding that only seven foreign experts remained at NSI compared to 35 previously.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Faedzal said that this year, through the implementation of a new model, NSI expect to generate between RM15 million and RM20 million in revenue through services rendered to national athletes and the commercialisation of some services.
