TYT's son Al Hambra elected MGF veep

KOTA KINABALU: Maj (K) Haji Al Hambra Tun Juhar has been elected as one of the vice presidents of the Malaysian Gymnastic Federation (MGF) recently.

Al Hambra faced a threecorne­red fight for the post and received the highest votes of 39 out of 40 with one spoilt vote.

Tengku Ridhwanudd­in with 35 votes and Francis Loh winning five votes were the other candidates.

As such Al Hambra, who is the sole Sabah representa­tive for the top management post in MGF, and Tengku Ridhwanudd­in will fill the two top vice president posts.

Former national gymnast Dr Farrah Hani Imran will be the third vice president as the federation's constituti­on requires at least one female to sit as the vice president.

Meanwhile, a breath of fresh air welcomed the outcome of the MGF Annual General Meeting (AGM) to elect its new executive committee for the period of 2019 - 2021.

Former gymnast Rachel Lau is the new MGF president after she won unopposed at the AGM election, replacing Datuk Jaya Al Bakri who did not seek to defend his post.

Kau Git Kaur also returned as the deputy president while Raja Hamzah Abidin Raja Nong Chik was appointed as treasurer and Jimmy Tan retained the post as secretary general.

One of the main challenges of new MGF executive committee will be at the Manila SEA Games 2019 where they have targetted to win eight gold medals.
