Resort staff remove 850kg of rubbish from beach

KOTA KINABALU: More than 100 volunteers from Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa (STAR) collected 850 kilogrammes of rubbish from the beach around the resort over three days recently.

Led by its general manager Gavin Weightman, the resort’s team picked marine debris brought in by the seasonal ocean currents.

Volunteers cleared plastic containers, plastic bags, used diapers and other non-degradable items from the public beach just outside the resort’s border to the STAR Marina jetty.
