The gallows for man who shoots dead elder brother

-

SIBU: A 41-year-old man was sentenced to death by the High Court here yesterday after he was found guilty of killing his elder brother.

Judge Dato Lee Heng Cheong convicted Ringgie Ampas under Section 302 of the Penal Code after establishing that the prosecution had succeeded in proving the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

In his judgment, he said he had given maximum evaluation of the evidence and sworn testimony of the defendant.

Ringgie was found guilty of shooting dead his elder brother Entili Ampas during a quarrel at their longhouse in Sebintik, about 26 miles from here, on May 21, 2017.

Entili, 45, died on the spot after Ringgie discharged a shotgun from a distance of 100 metres.

Prior to that, the siblings had quarreled after Ringgie intervened to stop Entili from beating his (Entili) daughter, who often stayed out late at night in town.

Following the deadly shooting, Ringgie fled the longhouse on his motorcycle and discarded the shotgun in a nearby jungle.

Upon his arrest, he led police to the jungle where the weapon was recovered.
