Labuan holds seven Federal Territory Day programmes
LABUAN: In conjunction with Federal Territory Day 2019, Labuan has been allocated seven programmes out of 21 to be carried out in all three Federal Territories.
Federal Territory Minister Khalid Abd Samad said to kick start the celebrations, Kempen Kibar Bendera at the Labuan level was held on January 27.
“Aside from that, corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, sports carnivals and other programmes are bound to benefit people of this island.
“I can see the cooperation and unity of the community in Labuan in the midst of preparing for the activities, working in a harmonious atmosphere of togetherness.
“These programmes are also a platform for the Ministry to develop balanced human resource capital, through activities that involve the community at every level. Surely these programmes would be an important element in propelling unity and social stability,” he said.
The seven programmes held in Labuan were Kenduri Wilayah, anti-litter campaign, friendly session with civil servants, planting campaign, corporal social responsibility (CSR) program and People's Sports Carnival.
Labuan Federal Territory Kenduri Wilayah on February 15 was a signature programme held under the cluster of people-friendly programmes in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
The Ministry of Federal Territory with cooperation from Alam Flora Sdn Bhd broadened the anti-litter campaign to maintain environmental sustainability and change the mindset of the people to be more responsible towards island cleanliness.
Khalid distributed anti-litter bags on February 15 to passengers at the Vehicle Ferry Terminal and Labuan International Passenger Ferry Terminal.
Alam Flora's representatives also contributed two recycle bins for public use, placed at the Passenger Ferry Terminal waiting area.
The friendly session with Labuan civil servants is a platform for Khalid to deliver a mandate to government staff in Labuan to equally help restore public trust in the civil service to be more efficient and effective.
The leisurely programme with members of the government administration enabled Khalid to interact more closely with members of the public, who are the backbone of the country's administration.
Khalid together with the Kampung Sungai Miri community planted 150 seedlings contributed by the National Landscape Department on the shore of Kampung Sungai Miri.
This tree planting campaign is in line with the Labuan Corporation's Strategic Plan 2017-2021 to strengthen the physical development and infrastructure development plans for environmental sustainability and improving the quality of municipal services towards making the island clean, comfortable and cheerful.
The Federal Territory and Labuan Corporation in collaboration with the Labuan Community Development Department (KEMAS) organised a free quilt stitch art programme for 50 members of B40 women communities in the Federal Territory of Labuan.
The CSR program was held in conjunction with Federal Territory Day 2019 which was also attended by the wife of the Federal Territory Minister, Dr Ziitun Abu Bakar, who is also a quilt sewing art instructor.
At the same time, the Labuan Corporation also donated five sewing machines to be placed in the KEMAS building for the use of the Labuan community.
Sporting events held such as beach volleyball, beach petanque, beach aerobics and others received participation from various age groups.
Federal Territory Sports Council, Labuan Corporation and Labuan Youth and Sports Department, who were also coorganisers, are also looking for new talents to be polished as Federal Territories athletes.
