75 illegals rounded up in Tawau operation
TAWAU: A total of 75 Indonesian and Filipino illegal immigrants were detained during a special operation at a ‘hotspot’ village area at Gugusan Felda Umas-umas, early yesterday morning.
District police chief ACP Fadil Hj Marsus said all the detainees had failed to show any identification documents and had no valid travel documents.
They were held under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and handed over to the Immigration Department for further action.
“In the same operation, the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJN) also arrested two individuals for possessing 5.2 grams of syabu worth about RM500 stored in a tin box in their house. Both suspects were apprehended under Sections 39A (1) and 15 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Meanwhile, during the operation, 13 cooking gas cylinders and 24 bottles of liquor were seized as they had no related documents. They were handed to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs and Customs Department for further action.
The integrated operation was jointly carried out by the Royal Malaysian Police, Tawau Immigration Department and ESSCom.
“Bukit Aman’s Interpol special forces also took part in the operation,” Fadil said, adding that about 150 houses were inspected.
