Foh Sang sketching contest for children

-

KOTA KINABALU: Artistic schoolchildren will have the opportunity to sketch out the image of Foh Sang commercial centre in a competition.

Lydia Leong, coordinator of the Luyang Community Center, decided to introduce the contest proposed by the Kota Kinabalu City Sketching Society.

She said the original idea of this event came from Steven Yip and members of the Kota Kinabalu City Sketching Society.

Similar competitions have been held in various districts in the past, but it has never been done in Foh Sang. In addition, this sort of painting competition usually attracts the same group of contestants.

She hopes that the event this time will attract newcomers to participate, and under the leadership of the senior members of the Kota Kinabalu City Sketching Society, Kota Kinabalu's arts can be given more weight and emphasis.

As mentioned by co-sponsor Steven Yip, “art is priceless”. As a result, the artistic industry in Malaysia has not received much attention in the past. For example, due to competition in the market, designers are often underpaid for their services even though they have devoted their time and hard work into perfecting their crafts.

They have little choice but to succumb to the harsh reality and provide their services with very little return.

Due to the harsh reality, many artists have to adapt and many even gave up honing their craft full time and venture into insurance or direct sales just to make ends meet. They can only display their talents at party events or small competitions in their free time.

Lydia said that the competition will be held at Foh Sang on April 13. The participating groups will be divided into two groups: Primary 4-6 and Form 1-3.

Participants who sign up before March 27 will be entitled to the early bird price of only RM5, after which the price will return to RM10.
