TAWAU: Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) Minister Datuk Junz Wong encouraged more planters to get involved in agrotourism in order to maximise the impact on promoting Sabah tropical fruits as one of the tourism attractions for Sabah.

Junz said he would work closely with Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment to realise this.

Junz told reporters this after visiting a local durian farmer, Pang, at Sin On Tiku in Tawau.

Pang has planted more than 25 trees at his two acres backyard farm for more than 40 years.

“It’s so encouraging to see how a little local durian farm has become such a popular place for locals to eat durians there,” Junz said.

“Durian lovers should visit the farm. There are several varieties of tasty and delicious local durians being planted in the farm,” he said.

Junz suggested that Pang’s little farm should be listed and included as part of a durian tour package for China tourists to try Sabah local durians in Tawau.

Tropical fruits, especially durian has become a hit with Chinese tourists.

Rambutan, langsat, mangosteen, kedundong and other local fruits are also found in the farm.

“It is a very good and enriching experience to enjoy the local fruits at the farm,” Junz shared.

“You can event walk around the farm to pick or look for fruits that have dropped from the tree,” he added.

Sabah has been a popular tourist destination for its pristine beaches, beautiful islands, tropical forests and Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in South East Asia.

Sabah is also known for its seafood products and local tropical fruits such as durians which are getting a lot of attraction.
