Gleneagles KK to launch ‘Blood in Your Poop’ campaign
KOTA KINABALU: Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu will be having an info day on March 30 focusing on “Blood in Your Poop” to kick start the hospital’s digestive health awareness campaign happening throughout March and April this year.
The event at Training Room, Level 2, is open to the public and free of charge.
The info day will feature informative booths at the hospital lobby, free vouchers and a health talk in the afternoon.
The participating specialist doctors are Dr. John Cheng, Gastroenterologist and Physician; Dr. Mutyala Vinod Kumar, General and Minimal Access Surgeon and Endoscopist; Dr. Chan Khan Wei, General, Minimal Access, Bariatric, and Metabolic Surgeon; as well as Dr. Mohd Sharifuddin Bin Sharif, General and Hepatobiliary Surgeon.
The digestive system is a group of organs working together to convert food into energy and basic nutrients for the body.
However, it can be susceptible to a number of site-specific diseases, such as haemorrhoids, peptic ulcer, hepato-pancreato biliary cancer, colorectal cancer, and stomach cancer.
According to the Ministry of Health, colorectal cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer among men in Sabah while stomach cancer is the third deadliest in the state.
“Digestive health is often overlooked until it starts causing chronic distress. Diseases of the digestive system are listed as among the 10 principal causes of hospitalisation and death in private hospitals according to a study done in 2014.
“Many of these conditions are preventable and treatable when managed early, yet they can affect thousands of people across Sabah every day. We hope that the local community will join in the campaign and lower the incidence rates, ” said Noel Cheah, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu.
The info day is organised by Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu in collaboration with the Sabah Cancer Society.
